Installation

Prerequisites

• Node.js, at the version in .node-version. fnm, nodenv, and GitHub Actions read that file directly.
• Yarn classic.
• Docker, for Postgres, S3, email, and the backend.
• Rust stable — only for the desktop app.

Install

From the repo root:

yarn install

Set up the backend

yarn initialize-backend

This creates .env from .env.example with a random BETTER_AUTH_SECRET, brings up Postgres, and applies migrations. It's safe to re-run — each step skips itself if it's already done. yarn dev runs it for you on a first run.

Sign in

1. Start the backend and the web app — see Running locally.
2. Open localhost:3003 and sign up.
3. Open Mailpit at localhost:8025 and click the verification link.

The first account becomes the owner. Every account after that starts as demo.
